OSIRS.NET is a Role-playing tool for the game Dark Matter, published by Wizards of the Coast. The site is meant to simulate the internal computer network used by members of the Hoffmann Institute. The computer network houses case files, dossiers, etc for the use of its employees.
This site is meant to act as that network.
You must request a username and password from the following link: http://www.osirs.net/gm/newgm/addgm1.cfm. Once you receive the confirmation e-mail, you may visit the following link to gain access:
Once you’ve entered the site at: http://www.osirs.net/gm you can add a player by clicking on the link “Add Player” in the left hand menu. It will then ask a series of questions:
· Real Name: This is the player’s real name. Much easier to keep track of the player by his real name.
· Real E-Mail: Do not worry, we don’t send SPAM or sell our user lists to other groups. We ask that information so that we can e-mail your player when they receive FAKE e-mail from our website. If we didn’t do that, he would never know when to come to OSIRS.NET
· Access: This is the access level you are giving this character. There are 20 different access levels that you may choose from. Starting players should be given low level access. You may give different sections of an NPC’s personnel file or a player’s personnel file different access levels. This way, one of your characters may be a higher rank then the rest of the characters and can read more detailed information then others.
· Login: This is the username you give your player so that he may access this site.
· Password: This is the password you give your player so that he may access this site.
· Character: This is the player’s characters name that he will be playing. This is what the player will go by in OSIRS.NET
· Fake E-mail: This would be the characters Hoffmann Institute E-Mail address. Although it could be a NASA address or CIA address. Basically, this will be how other player’s contact him or how his e-mails come addressed to other players.
Once you have completed adding a player, you can give that player his login and password so that he may get in and explore his OSIRS.NET account. However, there won’t be anything to see until you add some stuff to the site.
Once a player is added, you will see his name, along with any other players, down the right hand side of the main page. It will display their login count, last login, and FAKE e-mail accounts. If you click on their name you’ll be taken to a menu where you can edit all of their information. Including their character’s information.
Click on the player’s name that you would like to add a personnel file to (this is found on the right side of the front page). You’ll be presented with a page that shows five links: Edit Real Life Details, Add/Edit Fake E-Mail Addresses, Add/Edit Personnel Files, Modify Player’s E-Mail Contact List. Select “Add/Edit Personnel Files”.
Once you’ve clicked on this link you’ll see a table that shows this players list of characters. More than likely they will only have one. Co-GM’s (who run NPC’s for you) will more than likely have more than one character.
Clicking on their characters name will take you to a two page questionnaire for creating this personnel file. You will be asked for:
PAGE 1 (Low Level Security Items)
· Clearance Needed to View This Section: You are currently editing the 1st section of this personnel file. It contains Height/Weight, Eye color and so forth. By setting this Security Clearance to anything higher than the lowest setting will make it so that characters of low level cannot even see this area.
· Password to Override Security: Even though the characters may not be able to see the details, they can try to “hack” the system. The characters can click on the word “Classified” that will be in place of the information. This will bring up a password box. They can now try and hack the system. Whatever password you place in this box will be the password they need to guess to see this area! Example Use: During a mission, have a prop folder that has a password scribbled in it. The characters will be able to gain access to files other wise restricted. NOTE: Any hacking attempts will be FAKE e-mailed to your GM account. It’s a very cool e-mail describing who they tried to hack and at what time.
· Name: Character Name
· Image: Image of Character. This should be a web accessible image. Such as http://www.geocities.com/myaccount/image.jpg
· Gender: Character’s Gender
· Aliases: Any aliases this character may use in addition to their normal name.
· Dept: What department in the Hoffmann Institute do they belong?
· DOB: Date of Birth
· DOH: Date of Hire
· Appearance/Distinguishing Marks: This is where you describe the characters looks.
· Address/City/State/Zip/Email: This is all contact information.
Once again you are asked about clearance level and password. This is the second section of the personnel file so may have a different security clearance. The same rules apply.

· Education History: Typically this section might contain the education or history of this subject. However, you can place any information here that you want.
Once again you are asked about clearance level and password. This is the third section of the personnel file so may have a different security clearance. The same rules apply.

· The Rest: This is any extra information about the character. Psychological reports, special training, incidents. All of the special information. This area should require a higher level clearance.
NOTE: Any of these fields mentioned above can contain HTML tags. Use these tags to enhance your personnel files.
Once you have completed both pages you will be returned to the table listing their characters. At this time you may add a second page to a personnel file. It asks similar questions such as clearance level. However, it also asks for a title. These second pages will appear as links on their personnel file.
At any time you may preview any of these pages by clicking on the “Preview” link.
Click on your player’s name on the right side of the main page. You’ll be presented with a page that shows five links: Edit Real Life Details, Add/Edit Fake E-Mail Addresses, Add/Edit Personnel Files, Modify Player’s E-Mail Contact List. Select “Modify Player’s E-Mail Contact List”.
You will then be taken to a page that lists all their current e-mail addresses in their contact list. Click on the “Add New Contact” link at the top of this page.
It will ask you several questions:
· Character Name: This is the character’s name that you want to add to their list.
· E-Mail Address: This is the character’s FAKE e-mail address.
It’s a good idea to give each of your player’s the other characters e-mail addresses in their party before opening the site to them.
Select “Add/Edit Case Files” from the menu on the left. You will be presented with a list of case files that you have. Select “Add New Case File” from the top of the page.
This part can be difficult unless you read the article on Wizard's of the Coast site entitled: Eye's Only.
You are asked 7 questions concerning what this case file is about. After answering those questions you should assign the case a 5 digit case file number. That way more than one case could’ve been answered in the same fashion, but is still unique because of this number.
Now assign a Security Clearance for this case file. If you are unsure of security clearances, read the section on personnel files.
Give the case a brief summary so that people will know what this case is about. Click “Next Page” when you have completed these steps.
Now that you have completed adding the basic case file, you’ll be taken to a page that displays all of the pages in this case file. At first this will be empty. You must now click on the “Add New Page to File” link at the top of the page.
Assign the new page a title. This will be the title people see when selecting and entering the page.
Next type in the body of the case file page. You can use HTML here to give your case files a real sense of reality.
Finally, assign this case file an order number. This is the order in which the files will be displayed. Giving this file a ‘1’ will cause it to be listed first.
That’s it!
